John Otterson
- Lighting Cameraman / Shot Editor/ Studios & O.B’s
John joined the BBC in 1965 as a Technical Operator and progressed
to a Cameraman in 1972. He has worked as a Lighting Cameraman and
Shoot Editor on mainly News and Current Affairs. Having come up through
the ranks his experience on outside broadcasts, studios and lap top
edit capable may be called upon to help out when there is a big demand
in Belfast. |
John was the man to start TV operations
in Derry in 1992, and now still reckons that the Foyle TV facility
is second to none. While dealing with Local and National BBC Customers
he may at the same time have to facilitate foreign crews when there
is a big story in town. "John has a knack of making television
a painless experience. Being an editor as well as a cameraman, he
knows a good shot when he sees one. He also has a great ability to
react to circumstances. His experience of the local 'circuit' is second
to none. And if speed is required, his Formula One fingers always
ensure that deadlines are met. A true professional in every sense."
Mark Simpson, Political Correspondent,
BBC NI. "Ottie goes 'the extra mile' very often,
especially for Sport." Rod Nawn Sport
Producer, BBC NI. "I have always found John very
professional to deal with, good humoured even when under pressure
and always willing to go out of his way to help when he can."
Chris Kelly, TV News Production, BBC NI.
