His talent for teaching saw him take
on a training role, initially for staff in BBC NI, but this soon
took him to Poland and Prague where he was employed as a consultant
and trainer for the World Service. He was also attached to 6Music
for their launch in February 2002.
David assisted in the design of our two new radio studios and has
also collaborated on the design for a new radio car.
David’s specialisation in training has recently seen him take
on an acting post as Mentor, responsible for the training and development
of many of the Audio staff, including the new intake of Technical
Trainees.
David has an impressive list of credits which show his wealth of
experience and expertise.
"As part of his duties David Sheppey regularly works as an
audio engineer on all the Radio Current Affairs output from BBC
NI. He is a very skilled and experienced operator and makes a big
contribution to the smooth running of the programmes. He is consistently
helpful towards Producers and does his best to meet all the many
technical demands. He is also a very good trainer and has spent
a great deal of time and energy devising the training scheme for
a changed role for the Broadcast Assistants. He also trains staff
in the use of Dalet (hard disk playout system) and the news reading
staff in Studio 2. He is constantly making suggestions about how
to improve the studios, the radio car and our outside broadcast
equipment." – Kathleen Carragher, Editor Radio News,
BBC NI.
