Cathy Whitla – Post Production Editor

After studying Foundation Art & Design and Visual Communication (BA) at University of Ulster I joined BBC Northern Ireland in Jan 2002 and became an Editor Nov 2006. I have a keen interest in animation, graphic design and editing and bring an enthusiastic approach and dedication to each project I work on.

Working as part of the creative team I relish a challenge, love meeting new people and working on new projects and believe my arts background offers a high level of visual creativity. My experience covers Avid online/offline in both HD and SD and have edited programmes captured with single and multi cameras across a wide range of genres. I also have experience working on Quantel Q-edit, Cinegy and I am currently learning to use Final Cut Pro.

Producer feedback

"Cathy has real initiative and great ideas. She is very good at getting under the skin of the mood of a piece. Her thoughtfulness and grasp of the characters at the heart of each programme gave me great confidence."
Marie Irvine - Producer - Distant Horizons & Inside Out

"Cathy has an admirable ability to work on her own initiative, taking ownership of the project in the various stages and turning rushes into a very enjoyable television experience, each picture edit sympathetic to the music that it represents."
Karen Kirby - Producer - SRL & Blas Ceoil

"Working with Cathy is such a delight, she absorbs the feel and tone of the project effortlessly, then offers up suggestions, solutions and treatments...turning what is usually, for me, the most stressful part of the production process into a much more enjoyable, relaxing and at times even exciting experience. She is, quite simply, something very special."
Jacqui Berkeley - Producer - Shanks Apprentice

"The dedication to the project from Cathy as craft editor, in my opinion, played a major part in the ability for us to deliver such a high profile special in such a short period of time."
Raymond Lau - Producer - Conflict Revolution
