Ronni Ancona 's Factfile

Ronni Ancona

Personal Life
Ronni was named Veronica by her parents, she says it was a "terrible name…at school they called me Verruca or Knickers... I used to pretend to be The Muppets to stave off bullies. Growing up with two older brothers on the west coast of Scotland, in Troon, I was always very shy. Very unsuccessful with boys, very geeky, dirt would fly to me, very clumsy. A bit of a dweeb, a bit of a dork.”

Did You Know?
The star of Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression, Ronni, met Alistair while working on Spitting Image and they dated for three years before deciding they were better off as friends and working together on the show.

When she’s not writing scripts she is sitting alone in her flat studying hours of tapes of her targets. “You should see my flat, it's packed with videos and recordings of people I'm planning to impersonate. There's a lot to take on board. So, I try to see everything they've ever done. You have to try and get a real picture of how they come across."

Ronni started her career on the comedy circuit.

Cool Credentials
David and Victoria Beckham were so impressed with Ronni and Alistair’s impersonations of them that the Beckhams tried to hire them for a party. The couple wanted the comedy pair to greet guests at their pre World Cup bash at their home. The modest comic duo turned down the request because they were too embarrassed to perform for their most famous victims.

Ronni was the winner of Time Out's New Comedian Of The Year in 1993. Others to take home this trophy, the likes of Frank Skinner, David Baddiel and Ardal O'Hanlon.
