FREE CAR INSURANCE

They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch - but is there such a thing as free insurance?

The Rev Colin Burcombe is beginning to wonder! He bought a Ford Fiesta from Lindsay Cars on the Newtownards Road in Belfast. He admits he was attracted by a three years insurance deal that included two years free, plus an option to continue with the insurance for a third year for £600.

At the time he trusted the word of the salesman who told him he was insured. When no policy documents arrived though the Rev Burcombe started to ask questions. And when he contacted Ford at one point, the company told him that "they had no record of him or his car!"

Not surprisingly he’s beginning to wonder if he was ever properly insured and what has become of his full no claims bonus.

On Your Behalf asked Lindsay Cars why the Rev Burcombe had such difficulty getting insurance documents and if he had been insured at all times in the past three years.

Lindsay Cars told us that the matter has now been successfully resolved. The company says he’ll receive written confirmation that the insurance was indeed in place for all three years. Lindsay Cars says there were administration issues with both parties, which led to this misunderstanding.

Here at On Your Behalf we have to say we’re not sure what the Rev Burcombe’s administration issues were! The statement from Lindsay Cars goes on to say that Lindsay’s takes its levels of customer satisfaction very seriously, and that any complaints are investigated fully.

And in the statement the company also says that it aims to handle all of these in a responsible manner. The next part of the statement reads:

"Unfortunately in this instance, the complaint was not handled as efficiently as it should have been."

The Rev Burcombe has told us that he’s now very happy. Lindsay Cars is reimbursing his £600 as a sign of goodwill and is going to do some work on his car for good measure. Looks like his prayers have been answered.
