DRIVING LICENCES

Caught speeding in Britain! We hear from a woman who discovered a NI licence is not acceptable. Why? Well, penalty points for N Ireland drivers caught speeding in Britain have been confusing and complicated for years now. Here on Your Behalf we’ve dealt with numerous queries from listeners who’d been told they couldn’t pay a fixed penalty, but would have to go to court across the water, because of their N Ireland issued licence. The problem was a matter of law – Driving licences issued in GB and NI are, like many other matters, governed by different legislation.
Now the law has changed but it’s just as confusing.
On Your Behalf finds out from a spokesman for Policy and Legislation Manger with DVLNI what’s going on.

For information about your driving licence you should check out the DVLNI (Driver Vehicle Licensing NI) website
