TRANSMITTER
The Olympics have started – and millions of
people will be glued to their television sets, as the athletes from
around the world, compete for the medals.
David is looking forward to the games but he lives in Finaghy and
the television reception that he, and many people in BT 10 have
to suffer, makes television viewing a nightmare.
And he’s right – many people are in the same boat, and
like David have complained to the BBC about the reception. But who’s
responsible for the picture on your television? Who’s responsible
for the signal and the mast?
Well the answer is, the
BBC no longer owns or operates broadcast transmitters. Since 1995
transmitting stations around the country are operated by a number
of different companies.
The Divis transmitter is operated by Crown Castle International
who are service providers to the BBC among others. So, put simply,
the BBC makes programmes and these are transmitted by private companies.
On Your Behalf contacted all the bodies involved in this current
problem on David’s behalf, and we’ve been assured that
the matter is in hand, and as we speak, investigations into the
cause of the problem are ongoing.
BBC Broadcast Engineering Dept. gave On Your Behalf this statement;
“As one of the broadcasters concerned, the BBC is taking this
matter seriously and communication is taking place between all the
parties involved. We share the frustration of those affected and
are hopeful of a resolution soon “.
