The
Expense of Cancer
Cancer can be very expensive –
says Macmillan Cancer Relief. You may have to pay for prescriptions,
a special diet, extra child care or fares to hospital. You may also
have to manage on a lower budget if you’re not able to work.
At a time when you feel vulnerable and anxious, money worries can
come as a major blow.
Cancer Care specialists, Macmillan Cancer Relief, have published
a guide
to benefits and financial assistance for people affected
by the disease.
Speaking On Your Behalf our
benefits expert Professor Eileen Evason welcomes the booklet but
she says “There are no special benefits for people with cancer
- they have to fight their way through the same situation as healthy
people! that’s why the booklet is so important.”
On Your Behalf we talk to a woman who knows first hand how important
it is to get this information when you need it. Etta Glass was diagnosed
with cancer last year – she says
“The help I received allowed me to deal with my illness and
treatment and sort out the benefits I was entitled to. This booklet
is just for people like me.”
The guide shows all the different
kinds of help available for
• People of working age
• Pensioners
• Help with housing costs
• Help with health costs
• Help with children’s needs
• Transport
• Loans and grants for other expenses
Macmillan Cancer Relief hopes that with the right advice and information
you will be able to get the help you need with your money problems,
allowing you to focus on what really matters.
