ATTACKS ON THE ELDERLY

It seems that every time we turn on the news, there’s a report of the latest attack on an elderly person in their own home. Older people are often seen as "easy pickings" for burglars and muggers.

When On Your Behalf asked the police, we discovered that the figures show there were 140 attacks on the over 50’s in the four months up to last September. The figures for the same period this year are 204 attacks. That represents a whopping 45 per cent increase.

But On Your Behalf a local Crime Prevention Officer, says the figures don’t tell the whole truth.

He told the programme there are a number of measures you can take to protect yourself if you are worried.

Special alarm buttons are available at a reasonable cost from charities dealing specifically with older people.
