GARY & DANIELLE'S FAVOURITES

PRIORY HOUSE RESTAURANT

If the destination is a restaurant we definitely put the foot down (it's impossible to go very fast in the little red sports car so no speeding dramas for us!). The Priory House also has an arts community attached to it so eating AND shopping - perfect!

We ordered some rib eye steaks from Head Chef Sean Farnan's Lithuanian wife Ramune and, while they were being prepared, went down the lane to the arts collective which has its home in the outbuildings. Stephen Farnan, Sean's brother, was at his potter's wheel making platters for the restaurant but he took time out to explain how the arts community had got established. There were some lovely pieces there but we got called back to eat our steak before a shopping frenzy ensued.

After our meal and a quick chat with Sean the Chef we added a piece of 'artwork' to the wall. See what you think...

BACKGROUND

Head Chef Sean Farnan runs the restaurant in Benburb with his wife Ramune, a native of Lithuania who moved to Ireland eight years ago. The menu changes regularly according to season. There is a community of artists in the adjacent outbuildings including his brother Stephen's studio where the restaurant's crockery is made. Other artists include a basket weaver, another potter and there is an art school.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

Gary and Danielle had a meal in the restaurant and paid a visit Stephen Farnan's studio to see his pottery. They then added some 'artwork' to the wall of the restaurant.

COST

Gary and Danielle had a selection of cured meats at £4.70 for a platter, one bowl of soup at £3.90, rib eye steaks at £17.90 per person, two side orders of vegetables at £2.50 each and two cheesecake deserts at £3.80 each.
