Ahoy there me mateys! We got the opportunity of going on a pirate ship complete with Captain "Jim the Enforcer", a Jolly Roger flag, a stuffed parrot and a crew of dodgy looking pirates.
We were meant to go out onto Lough Neagh but as it was too rough we went up the river instead. Both of us thought that the other should walk the plank but luckily one of the pirates drew the short straw and was marched overboard into the icy depths!
BACKGROUND
Two Lough Neagh fishing vessels have been converted into two miniature 12 seater Pirate ships, The Black Pearl and the Calypso. Voyages take place on Lough Neagh with a crew of pirates. Participants can dress in character if they want and are encouraged to join in with the spirit of adventure.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
The captain and crew dress in full pirate costume. Passengers are given paper hats but can buy more props on the boat or arrive in full pirate regalia. During the boat trip passengers can see parts of Shane's Castle that can only be viewed from the water and the pirates give a short history. A pirate walks the plank and there is a canon with pyrotechnics that can be fired.
COST
£5 for adults, £3 for children. Private boat hire can be arranged.
BOOKING
Trips run every Sunday from 1pm to 5.30pm and passengers can arrive on the day without pre-booking. Special arrangements for private hire can be organised.
