LAURENCE & JACKIE'S FAVOURITES

MULLAGHMORE HOUSE, TYRONE

Jackie and I can highly recommend this lovely Georgian B&B. We stayed there on our 19th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect romantic hideaway. We stayed in the Master bedroom, complete with a half tester bed with draped canopy. As interior design is my passion it was the perfect place to unwind. All the rooms have beautifully restored period furniture and working fireplaces.

We chose it as one of our highlights in County Tyrone as it offers much more than high quality B&B accommodation. There's an antique furniture restoration centre and showroom on site and you can browse around the antiques or take a course in a traditional craft.

BACKGROUND

Mullaghmore House is a Grade B listed Georgian building on a four acre site on the outskirts of Omagh. It dates back to Plantation times and has been been a parent house to Knock-Na-Moe Castle. More recently it was the birthplace of the actor Sir John Gorman and Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill. It took years of work to restore the house to its former splendour

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

This romantic B&B has five bedrooms with ensuite facilities as well as a marble steam room, games room, library and orangery.

The old barns, stables and coach houses have been turned into studios and workshops. Mullaghmore House offers activity holidays and residential courses. You can turn your hand to woodwork, antique restoration or traditional crafts. A team of craftspeople work on all areas of furniture restoration and architectural salvage. Courses range from one day workshops to accredited qualification level.

COST

£78 for a double room, B&B. Singles from £34
