It seems, as thought, it was finally to dip our toes into the water, or Lough Macnean to be precise. We were on our way to Corralea Activity Centre just outside Belcoo to get our first ever lesson in the art of canoeing. Feeling a little like fish out of water at what lay ahead we made our way out of Enniskillen and headed west.
BACKGROUND
The activity centre has been in existence for over a decade. Under the watchful eyes of owners Marius and Isabelle Leonard, visitors can stay on site and take part in a range of activities.
The setting of Corralea is quite spectacular. Lough Macnean is a freshwater lake which is popular with anglers. The secluded bays make this an ideal location for both anyone new to water activites and those with more experience.
The activity centre has a range of practices in place to help protect the environment. The accommodation on site has been awarded the EU flower for its eco-friendly cottages. Eco-tours are available for those who want to visit the area without making an impact on the spectacular surroundings of loughs, mountains and ancient heritage
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
The activity centre offers both residential courses and facilities for those who just want to visit on a daily basis. Take part in canoeing, windsurfing or kayaking classes under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Or simply hire equipment on site and head off on your own independent journey. Northern Ireland's only water trampoline is also available on site
Mountain biking, caving, climbing and orienteering are some of the other activities available at Corralea.
Families, groups and individuals are all welcome, although where possible booking is advisable.
COST: Prices vary for residents and day visitors but range from £9 for a half-day's tuition for a child to £30 for an adult seeking a full day's tuition. Full details are available on Corralea's website (see below)
