Gary & Danielle's Northern Exposure

You couldn't go to Co Fermanagh without water being involved somewhere along the line so we were relieved that we were going to be ON Lough Erne and not IN it! Especially as it was raining!

We were going to be given a tour of the lough and its most notable landmarks by skipper Stephen Craig. No cruising gin palace for us, we were in a high speed rib.

We started from Castle Island in Enniskillen and went up the river Erne and onto Lough Erne proper. Stephen pointed out sites of historical interest and gave us some background. One of the landmarks we passed was Devenish Island with its impressive round tower. Gary was given a tantalising glimpse of the Lough Erne golf course but again he was thwarted in his ambition to get a round in.

Once the tour was over Stephen gave over the controls to us and we both got a chance to open up the throttle and go for some speed. All too soon it was over and as we walked up the jetty the sun came out to dry us off.

BACKGROUND

The tours are run by Life, One Great Adventure and the Lough Erne tours are based on Castle Island in the middle of Enniskillen. It is an actual island so punters are picked up by boat and ferried across if necessary. The operation is managed by Martin Mullan and the tours have been running for a year.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

Gary and Danielle’s tour was a three hour package but tours can start from one hour and individual packages can be arranged. Lifejackets and wet weather gear are provided. Clients can be collected from various locations around the lough. All ages and abilities are catered for and the company currently have three ribs.
