It will be the first time a German national team has competed at the top international youth tournament and organisers are thrilled.
Tournament chairman Victor Leonard confirmed the news after Sudan withdrew from the Elite competition. He said: It is remarkable that the German FA acted so quickly when we told them that Sudan had decided not to come, at this late stage.
The Germans have qualified for the World Cup finals in Nigeria later this year which gives an indication of their pedigree.
Their coaches are delighted to be able to give the boys the experience of playing in a major tournament against quality opposition ahead of the finals.
It is a real feather in our cap to be hosting a German national squad particularly as they are European champions.

In the past the Milk Cup has welcomed several top German club teams including Bayern Munich, Hertha Berlin, Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen.
Germany, coached by Marco Pezzaiuole, won the European title in May when they defeated the Netherlands 2-1 in the final on home soil in Magdeburg. They also defeated Italy in the semi-final and England, Turkey and the Netherlands in their group games.
At Milk Cup they will open their programme with a game against Steve Beaglehole’s defending champions Northern Ireland at the Riada Stadium in Ballymoney on Monday, July 27 (7pm) before taking on favourites USA at Ballymena Showgrounds on the Wednesday (8pm).

A little bit of info on the Israel U-19 National Team:
The team is made of players from the 1991 age group, which is considered to be a specially good age group. This team, while being at U-17 level (2008) almost reached the U-17 Euro, even though they faced some of Europe’s giants in the qualifying Elite stage.

England, France and Russia arrived in Israel for the Elite stage. Israel beat Russia 3:1 in the opening match, lost to France 2:3 in the 2nd, and drew 2:2 with England in the last match (Aston Vilas striker, Nathan Delfouneso, equalized for England in the last minute). Israel ended up in the 2nd place, before Russia and England, and just behind France.

    U-19 coach, Eli Ohana:

One of the interesting things about our team, is our coach, Eli Ohana. Ohana, one of the greatest players in Israel’s history, has taken over the team last year, and is a part of a new concept, in thecourse of which former Israeli greats took over the youth national teams.
Ohana, a symbol for both the national team (51 caps, 17 goals) and for Beitar Jerusalem, is admired by his players and tries to pass his knowledge to the young players. Ohanas most memorable moment came on the 16/04/1989, when Israel faced who then were our biggest rivals, Australia, in a crucial match in the 1990 Italia WC qualifying round. In the 40th Minute Ohana put Israel into the lead, with a wonderful goal, which is considered by most the best Israeli goal ever. Israel passed Australia, only to eventually lose to Colombia in the final qualifying round.
Another major achievement came when Ohana lead Belgian side KV Mecehlen to the Cup Winners Cup in 1988.

    Ones to watch:

Artur Atadjanov, position: Winger/Forward, club: Hapoel Tel Aviv
An explosive winger, Atadjanov is one of biggest prospect of the current U-19 team. Known for his paceand dribbling, Atadjanov scored both winners in Israels double win over Romania last April (1:0, 1:0). Already made his debut with Hapoel Tel Avivs senior team.

Reef Peretz, position: Central defender/Defensive midfielder, club: Maccabi Tel Aviv
Peretz has been training with Maccabi Tel Avivs senior team for the past season, and is considered to be a prospect both there and in the U-19 team. He organizes the defense well, and is also known as player who likes to come forward for set pieces and score goals.

Barak Moshe, position: Defensive midfielder/Central midfielder, club: Beitar Jerusalem
Moshe is known as the barometer of the team, and has captained the 1991 age groups through the different levels (U-16, U-17, U-18 and now U-19). A player who holds a position that is known as problematic in Israeli football, will defiantly have a chance of making it big on the national stage.

Many of the boys in the senior team have just emerged as the first batch of students to leave our pioneering school in the UK. We are the first club in the country to go into partnership with a full time school and have our players attend as normal full time students who have the flexibility to train twice daily. This hopefully sees them emerge both as full time players, but also with a positive set of GCSE results behind them. Two years into the scheme, we have received outstanding reviews from a number of clubs and football associations from around the world.
Many of our senior team have perfoermed at Youth and Reserve levels. Specific focus has been on Chez Isaac, Jack Warburton, Gavin Massey and Adam Thompson.
One of the players who attended the 2 previous Milk Cups, Ross Jenkins, earliuer this year moved to the 1st team squad and has gone on tomakeover 35 first team apearances and also be named in the England U20 team. Of other players from last year, 3 more have gone on to be offered full professional contracts.
One of last year's players who has signed pro, Lee Hodson, will be at this year's Milk Cup representing Northern Ireland. Lee made his 1st team debut at the end of last season against Derby County and has a bright future ahead of him.
Another player from last year has gone on to be named England U17 captain and sign full pro forms. Eddie Oshodi, a strong dominant central defender, has all the attributes to play at the highest level.

Dundalk held Everton 0-0 in a very entertaining match but a certain Wayne Rooney came on as a substitute with 4 minutes left and scored the winner with his first kick of the ball.
Paul signed for Leeds Utd the following year and although it did not work out for him in England he did play for the Republic of Ireland youth teams for five years. Fermanagh first entered the competition back in 1992, entering one team in the Premier Section. The County entered two teams in Junior and Premier Sections for the first time in 1994 and has been represented in both competitions ever since. The early years proved difficult for the County teams but each year seemed to bring marked improvement as both coaches and players learned from their experiences.
The selection process for the Fermanagh teams begins in February with trials throughout the County. Over the following months the numbers are reduced until the final panel of 18 is in place. Committee and managers alike, give up a large percentage of their free time to raise the necessary finance and coach the boys to ensure their preparation is as professional as possible. Everybody is aware that the County teams face clubs consisting of boys who are with professional clubs on a fulltime basis.

This was the first year that teams representing their counties participated in the tournament. The Milk Cup Organising Committee introduced this initiative which was aimed at improving professionalism amongst the teams competing from the host country.
In 1998 the county initiative was further extended with the introduction of teams at Junior U/14 level.
