Wheaten and Soda Farls


Wheaten Farls

200g wholemeal flour

100g plain flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

250ml buttermilk



Mix the flours in a bowl. Sift in the baking soda and salt and mix well.
Mix in the buttermilk to a thick dough.
Place on a floured surface and gently knead into a ball.
Flatten the ball and divide into 4.
Place on a medium hot frying pan or griddle and cook for about 6-8 minutes on each side. Cool on a wire rack for a couple of minutes, split and spread with butter.




Soda Farls

400g soda bread flour

400ml buttermilk

1 teaspoon salt

 

 

Mix the flour and salt in a bowl.
Mix in the buttermilk and turn onto a floured surface.
Form into a ball, flatten and divide into quarters.
Cook on the griddle for 6-8 minutes each side.
