Custard had
become entangled in a fishing net and had a deep wound around
his neck.
As the injury was so severe he was taken to a veterinary surgery
in Coleraine for immediate treatment. Here he was sedated so
that the netting could be removed and the wound thoroughly cleaned.

After spending
a weekend at the vets being treated with fluids and antibiotics
he was picked up and brought back to the seal sanctuary on the
11th January.
The wound is healing well and he is eating 3kgs of herring a
day. That is about 25 to 30 fish! He is being kept in a flooded
quarentine pen and he will be kept there, and on antibiotics,
until his wound has healed completely.
