John A: Dear John, So you're trying to buy something for your special lady! Eh! One finds that shopping on the internet cuts out the hustle and bustle, and you may find a bargain to boot! Follow my steps to a pain free shopping experience...

Step 1
Try visiting shopping sites of familiar high street stores. You'll find the website address on bags, till receipts and adverts.
Step 2
Alternatively use a search engine (see Q5) to search for a specific item.
Step 3
Once you've arrived at a site, start browsing using the relevant section headings.

Step 4
When you've found a suitable item click on it to find out more information.
Step 5
If you're happy with the product add it to your online shopping basket.
Step 6
You can view your basket at anytime by clicking on it and delete an item if you change your mind.

Step 7
If you're ready to buy your item then proceed to the checkout.
Step 8
To make a purchase you'll have to register your payment details.
Step 9
Before you enter any personal details check for a secure server. Look for the following:

A contact number and address.
Step 11
A secure area on the website which displays a padlock symbol in the status bar of your web page.
Step 12
and 'https' in the address bar or Verified by Visa or MasterCard Securecode logos.

Step 13
Double check specifications and delivery, then confirm your purchase.
Step 14
Print out all documents as proof of purchase and keep them safe.


Remember if you buy something that costs more than £100, use a credit card as you'll be entitled to free insurance under the Consumer Credit Act.
