Dear Agnes, My friend recently clicked on an email and caught a virus. Is he contagious? Yours,OliverA:No dear Oliver, Achoo… What your friend caught was a virus from clicking on spam emails. A virus is often disguised as an email attachment; it could be a picture, a video or an audio file. You should never open email attachments from people you don’t know. Always be wary of spam emails as they may contain viruses, Spyware or links to rogue websites.

Step 1
Viruses can attack your computer and cause damage by corrupting the computer and erasing information from the hard-drive.
Step 2
Spyware is software that secretly gathers information about you as you navigate the internet. It can cause unsolicited pop-ups to occur, hijack your homepage and searches, or redirect you to the wrong website.
Step 3
Be sure to check what security software is installed on your computer.

Step 4
Click on Start and select the Control Panel.
Step 5
Select ‘Security Centre’.
Step 6
Within the ‘Security Centre’ Security you can see if you have firewall or not.

Step 7
If you don’t have a firewall, install one. Make sure your firewall is always turned on.
Step 8
It is recommended to install an anti-virus software. Buy from computer store or from the internet and install the software onto your computer.
Step 9
It is very important to install anti-spyware. Anti-spyware is designed to catch spyware but you should not rely on it alone.

Remember prevention is better than cure.
