Instant messaging and phone calls over the internet allow you to talk to your chums in real time and keep them up-to-date with the latest news at a fraction of the cost of international phone calls. All you and your chums need is an email address and an internet connection.

Step 1
Instant messaging is just like having a conversation only in text form.
Step 2
Most PCs will have Windows Messenger otherwise you'll need to download some instant messaging software.
Step 3
To install your instant messaging software, click on the start menu; select All Programs; then Windows Messenger (or other messaging software).

Step 4
Select Click here to sign in, this opens the Windows Messenger wizard.
Step 5
Go through each step filling in your details...
Step 6
Your Windows Messenger will appear on screen. To get chatting select add a contact.

Step 7
Then chose by email address or sign in name; click next.
Step 8
Type in the email address and select next. Your contact will receive a message asking them to sign up.
Step 9
To send a message, double click your contact’s name, a conversation window will open.

Step 10
Type your message at the bottom of the screen and click send. Your chum can reply instantly.
Step 11
Or you can use internet calling to call landlines, mobiles as well as other PCs (cheapest option).
