These competitions stick to a strict submissions deadline and generally only operate annually.

2009 NATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION Writing Pen

National Poetry Competition 2009 is now open for entries!

THE TONY DOYLE BURSARY FOR NEW WRITING Writing Pen

The Tony Doyle Bursary for New Writing provides a fantastic opportunity for writers new to television. Previous winners of the prestigious £2,000 television writer's award are Bill Murphy, Brian Dungan, Dominque Maloney, Danny Stack, Abbie Spallen to name a few.

The chosen finalists will take part in a residential seminar where they will undergo intensive, structured, script sessions with members of BBC Northern Ireland Drama's development team and with top script writers and producers.

The Tony Doyle Bursary for New Writing is open to writers who have a different story to tell and who are passionate about starting a writing career in television. This is the sixth time the bursary scheme run by BBC Northern Ireland has been offered to new writing talent.

Deadline for submissions is 4th December 2010.

MY STORYWriting Pen

My Story is a competition for ordinary people with EXTRAordinary true stories. Submit your story.

WRITERS' & ARTISTS ' YEARBOOK COMPETITION 2010Writing Pen

Write a short story (for adults) of no more than 2,000 words, on the theme of ‘Unity or Union’.

If you have talent, an original voice, and stories to tell, then BBC writers room wants to know about you.

Send your scripts. BBC writersroom is the first point of call at the BBC for all unsolicited scripts and writers. All work is assessed primarily for the talent of the writer, and in addition for the script's suitability for further development.
