I gCuideachta …/ Music in the Company of... began on Monday 17 March
on BBC2 at 10.00pm.
Each
week a different group or artist is featured both playing live and talking
about their lives, loves and music. The artists chosen for the series
are highly talented and steeped in Irish music but they have innovated
and developed diverse styles.
Dónal
and Gerry O' Connor

A father and son tradition in Irish fiddling continued in the fifth
programme on 14 April with Gerry O’Connor and his son Donal.
From a family who have played fiddle for at least four generations, Gerry
has been able to draw on this wealth of music learned from his mother
Rose and Donal has now inherited this great musical legacy.
In their own right, they have both earned international renown and both
are outstanding players of their respective generations.
In
addition to fiddle, Dónal is also an accomplished guitarist and
as well as preparing material for a duet album with well known uileann
piper, John McSherry from Belfast,
he is currently involved with the production of his father’s solo
album shortly due for release.
