The so-called Flight of the Earls is one of the most important episodes in Ireland’s history. It represented the end of native Irish rule in Ireland; it signified the completion of the English military and legal conquest of Ireland and it cleared the way for the Plantation of Ulster.
To commemorate the 400th anniversary Blas will feature a series of 5 especially recorded lectures from this year’s Éigse Cholm Cille in the University of Ulster at Magee.

The Flight of the Earls on Television
Presented by Antaine Ó Donnaile, BBC Northern Ireland will also be broadcasting its three part television series on the Flight of The Earls in September. Viewers with digital television can watch the programme in either English or in Irish, by pushing the red button on their remote.
Programmes will be broadcast on BBC One NI at 10.20pm.
