An Dochtúir Stiofán Ó Díreáin

Is as Oileán Mhic Aoidh dó Stiofán Ó Díreáin. Fisiceoir a bhí ann agus, nuair a bhí sé ina chónai i Sasana, bhí sé mar chomhairleoir do Rialtas na Breataine leis an méid dé-ocsaid sulfair agus dé-ocsaid carbóin san atmasféar a laghdú. Chaith sé tamall ag taistil an domhain ach bhí grá aige i gcónaí don Ghaeilge is d'éirigh leis an teanga a choinneáil, cé go raibh sé i bhfad ón bhaile ar feadh na mblianta. Tá sé ina chónaí in Oileán Mhic Aoidh arís faoi láthair is é lánsásta bheith ar ais in Éirinn.

Dr. Stiofán Ó Díreáin is a retired physicist and has travelled to many parts of the world. He was one of those involved in reducing the level of sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere and acted as an advisor to the British Government for the Large Combustion Plant Directive. Despite years of travel, he managed to keep his Irish and is quite happy to be back in Island Magee.
