An tOllamh Ailbhe Ó Corráin

Is é an tOllamh Ailbhe Ó Corráin, an chéad duine atá thar cheann an Roinn Nua-Ghaeilge in Ollscoil Uladh ag Coláiste Magee i nDoire. Cé gur rugadh i mBéal Feirste é, d’fhág sé a bhaile dúchais tar éis staidéir a dhéanamh in Ollscoil na Ríona, le dul go dtí an tSualainn. Chaith sé cúpla bliain ag teagasc an léinn cheiltigh sa tSualainn agus sa Ghearmáin sula d’fhill sé abhaile go Ollscoil Uladh I gCúil Raithin áit a chaith sé seall thar cheann Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge sular bhog sé go Doire.

Professor Ailbhe Ó Corráin is the first person to head the Department of Modern Irish in University of Ulster at Magee College in Derry. Although he was born in Belfast, after studying in Queen’s University, he left his native home to go to Sweden. He spent a number of years teaching Celtic Studies both in Sweden and in Germany before returning home to the University of Ulster in Coleraine, where he spent some time heading the Department of Modern Irish, before moving to Derry.
