Garden team are back on screen
for a third series of practical, down to earth
gardening this spring.

Have your hankies at the ready, it’s the
last in the present series of The Greenmount
Garden. John Cushnie takes a look at how the
garden has moved on this season, and checks
whether he’s won the potato growing challenge
after all. Claire Woods is watering wisely –
it’s shaping up to be a scorcher this
summer so she’s looking for ways to economically
keep the garden growing. Cherrie McIlwaine heads
to Comber to the garden of Joyce Millar to see
how she strives to encourage wildlife into her
organic garden.

In The Greenmount Garden this week, Claire Woods
is making sure the garden is brimming with colour
all summer long with bedding plants ranging
from traditional to tropical, John Cushnie is
truly stumped at Desmond Clyde’s problem
corner in Dunadry and Cherrie McIlwaine is in
Omagh, seeing how Kathleen Ward has created
a beautiful haven beside a busy road.

Woods takes action against some pesky pests
and diseases in the garden, John Cushnie hits
to road to Newtonabbey to help Hannah McIlwaine
tackle a drainage disaster and Cherrie McIlwaine
is in Killinchy seeing how Billy Jackson has
created a peaceful haven, with the help of a
huge Leyland hedge to protect his plants from
the elements.

it’s 2 years on, what’s worked and
what hasn’t to make sure it stays a well-kept
secret? Claire Woods is in Belfast with the
Up Front team and garden designer and Greenmount
student Moyra Black, helping Joan Miles screen
the wheelie bins in her front garden. Cherrie
McIlwaine is joined by gardening guru Dermot
O’Neill to take a very privileged look
at the outstanding gardens at Farmleigh, Dublin.
