Life is complicated. And then there's the chaos of Liverpool Private Invesitagor
Eddie McMullen's life.
As if there's not enough going on - a PI business to run, an ambitious
wife, three demanding daughters and a mother who thinks he's still 12
- Eddie has to face the fact that he may have an illegitimate son he knew
nothing about.
The whole family are trying to come to terms with the arrival of 24-year-old
Frank Bennett (Tom Ellis), who turned up on the doorstep clutching a birth
certificate with Eddie's name on it.
Eddie's wife Ronnie (Rachel Davies) has demanded DNA tests all round,
daughters Laura (Stephanie Waring) and Becca (Emma Vaudrey) are rowing
over the family splitting up and eldest girl Angela (Christine Tremarco)
is adding to the chaos by walking out on her husband. Just an average
day Chez McMullen.
And while the whole mess is being sorted out there's still the day job
to be done. Frank helps Eddie out when plain and plodding postal worker,
Tony Bentley (Mark Benton) asks Eddie to check that his beautiful girlfriend
Adele (Jayne Ashbourne) is being faithful to him.
Always looming over the unfortunate Eddie, however, is the DNA test arranged
by Ronnie that will reveal if he really is Frank's Dad.
Eddie confides to brother-in-law Lol (John Henshaw) that he definitely
isn't the father...although he vaguely remembers waking up next to Frank's
Mum, Barbara after a party to celebrate Liverpool winning the European
Cup in 1977. Surely not?
Eddie is stricken. Should he take the test? How can he refuse? Will Ronnie
make his death swift and painless? What the hell is he going to do?
