Moira Sweeney (the feed merchant) has to sell the family business because
of a cash flow crisis caused by too many people like Aidan owing her
money.
Aidan offers her the prize money he expects to win from a race that
Time Regan's horse, Sunrise Bay is entered in.
On the strength of Aidan's promise Moira turns down a cash offer for
the business.
Jonah thinks that Aidan isn't paying the colt enough attention and
that the colt should be entered in the race. He enlists the help of
Sheridan who has borrowed her mother's credit card to pay the entrance
fee for the race. Jonah is faced by one problem; the colt refuses to
train on the gallops. Sheridan has her own problem with her parents
who have stopped her becoming an apprentice jockey at Aidan's yard.
Together they have to come up with a name for the colt.
Aidan's plans for Sunrise Bay hit two obstacles. Tim Regan rejects
Aidan's first choice jockey and then when Tim see how Sunrise Bay is
running in training he decides to withdraw the horse. His pride is too
great to risk his horse performing poorly against Charlie Carrick's
horse.
Desperate to raise cash for Moira, Aidan falls off the wagon and enters
a big money poker game, he starts winning but once the cards go against
him he can only stay in the game by betting the colt.
Jonah arrives to stop him and tell him that he entered the colt - he
doesn't need to jeopardise what wasn't his to gamble in the first place.
Jonah, Aidan and Dermot finally settle on a name for the colt - except
Jonah entered the name as ‘Rough Dimond’. Aidan, Dermot
and Jonah work together to get the colt to train on the gallops.
On the day of the race the jockey selected to ride the colt is obnoxious
to everyone including the colt, so the colt bites him on the hand. Aidan
and Dermot need to find a replacement as soon as possible.
Sheridan has to conquer her nerves to realise her dream of competing
as a jockey on the colt. Before the race everyone is full of nervous
energy. Charlie and Yolanda because their daughter is about to compete
in the grown up world of racing, Moira because her financial salvation
lies with the colt winning or placing in the race, Aidan, Dermot and
Jonah because the colt is finally competing and is the future of the
yard.
Sheridan and Rough Dimond start well, but when Sheridan’s boot
slips it looks like the race is over, finally Rough Dimond shows his
true potential and works his way up from the back of the field to finish
second in a photo-finish.
