Its Enough To Believe You're In Danger

Thursday 8th September at 21.05 on Radio 3
Director : Eoin O’Callaghan

On the 6 March 1988, three members of an IRA active service unit were shot by the SAS on the Rock of Gibraltar. Their leader was 30 year old Daniel McCann. When he was killed he was holding a copy of Flann O’Brien’s novel “The Hard Life”. It was perhaps this last fact that prompted Michael Butt to investigate the character of the three would be bombers, and also the characters of the members of British Intelligence services on the ground.

How did each of them, the hunters and the hunted, come to find themselves on that rocky outcrop on that fine spring day? What might they have been thinking, beyond the obvious political imperatives?

Plunging the listeners deep into the minds of those involved on that fateful day, we explode the well worn mythologies and reconstruct a collision of clearly defined individuals, some of whom have begun to query their reasons for being there.

The cast includes:

Henry Goodman, Gerard Murphy, Stephen Boxer and Brid Brennan

Director Eoin O’Callaghan
