The new Woman’s Hour Serial is entitled DO NOT ADJUST YOURSELF
by Kate Perry – a collection of monologues by individuals facing
unusual personal predicaments; predicaments which though minor in the
scheme of things, threaten to ruin the little happiness they have left.
The Monologues first formed part of the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2004,
but they are now brought to life by; Doreen Keogh, TP McKenna, Marion
O’Dwyer, Tracy Ann Oberman and Sarah Dillon.
Monday, Sarah Dillon performs Mummy on the Brink
Triona, is smart, precocious and 12 years of age. She has decided that
the only way to save her amphetamine-addicted mother is to dismiss the
GP and to take control of her eclectic range of medication, with interesting
results.
Tuesday, Swaying in the Breeze
Marion O’Dwyer plays Trisha, who married to a tight-fisted, football-obsessed
boor, finally decides that enough is enough. She exacts a delicious revenge
then retreats to the compost heap, preparing to be transformed into a
sunflower – swaying in the breeze.
Wednesday, Alfie Flies Again,
TP McKenna is Alfie, an ex-Air Force fitness instructor, who driven demented
by TV’s blaring all over Golden Slumbers Nursing Home, is forced
to strike a deal with an overbearing, snack-obsessed matron.
Thursday, Marley
Tracy Ann Oberman is Marley - 9 months pregnant, delusional and smitten
with her TV repair man. There’s a chance her marriage to Ben might
survive, but only if that baby will hurry up and be born.
Friday, Corrie with Carmel,
Doreen Keogh plays Carmel, a Coronation St obsessive who shares a birthday
with Ken Barlow. But as she settles down to celebrate their anniversary;
the TV goes on the blink, with distressing results.
