Co-Productions with Network and other Broadcasters
Post DQF, BBC NI has some challenging targets to meet within its commissioning budget – this has given rise to many opportunities for us to consider co-commissioning with Network BBC channels as well as other Broadcasters like RTE. Working with network, James Hayes is our conduit to the Factual commissioners and Alan Tyler is working with the Entertainment commissioning team in a similar arrangement.
Co-Productions with other broadcaster and 3rd Party financiers will always be considered and should be initiated by the independent in most cases. It should be borne in mind that these contractual and transmission positions can take time to negotiate, which may have an impact on production.
Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's Sound and Vision Scheme
BBC Northern Ireland is interested in supporting a small number of proposals that satisfy the requirements of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's Sound and Vision Scheme.
We will support a maximum of three projects in any round. We will only consider those proposals that have been fully commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland and from companies who wish to approach the scheme for funding to enhance editorial aspiration and ambition.
The BBC Northern Ireland deadline is 4 weeks prior to the BAI deadline and will require the Independent Company to provide a written statement detailing:
- the nature of the enriched editorial proposition
- the rationale for approaching the scheme
- the benefits for the broadcaster
- the additional value to the audience
The process for approaching BAI is considered and measured. We cannot support projects without a prior commission from BBCNI and we will not accept offers that miss the 4 week deadline.
Written statements should be submitted under the BAI brief on Proteus and will be handled through our electronic commissioning system.
