Children in Need Animations
19/11/10
As part of this year's Children in Need broadcast, BBC Blast worked with students from the University of Ulster and top animator Joel Simon from Flickerpix, to create short animations illustrating some of the organisations that are helped by Pudsey .
Organisations such as Benview Community Centre; the Glenparent Youth Group; the Children's Law Centre; The Rainbow Project; the Artillery Youth Club in Belfast and the Play Resource Centre in Londonderry made audio recordings about their organisation and what benefits Children in Need funding brought.
These recording were then given to Students from Foundation Visual Communication Studies in the University of Ulster, Belfast, along with a brief from Children in Need. The audio needed to be complimented with pictures that told a story about the organisation, but the story must be told in a caring and entertaining manner. Together with their tutor, Joel Simon from Flickerpix and a little help from Blast they spent one (very hectic) week making animations in a variety of styles to illustrate the stories.
The animation formats included, clay-mation, flash, aftereffects, rotoscoping and even puppetry.
