Ballykissangle Examiner
Victoria Smurfit Orla O'Connell took Ballykissangel by storm when she arrived in town with the new priest. The gossips were disappointed to discover that she was no dark secret, but Fr. Aiden (Don Wycherley) sister. She talks to the Examiner about geese, having the mickey taken and the next President of the U.S

Victoria Smurfit doesn't smile - she beams as as strides across the room hurling a loud "Howareya! - I'm Vicky." and puts out her hand to shake. She seems to be in total control and supremely confident. "I know I'm not as confident as Orla and I hope that I don't fall at every hurdle like Orla. And thankfully, I'm having better luck with men than Orla is." She had announced her engagement a few days earlier.

Orla O'Connell arrived in Ballykissangel in series 4 as the new priest's sister. Fr. Aiden was the replacement for heartbroken Fr. Peter Clifford who had left the town and the series after the death of sharp witted and sharp tongued Assumpta Fitzgerald.

Victoria says that the Orla and her Brother are two very different characters."She is quite wily and thinks she's very smart but usually comes a cropper. Whereas her brother comes a cropper anyway by being so kind and nice."

Before Ballykissangel, Victoria played in the BBC costume drama Berkley Square. "It was quite harrowing and gritty. I got to cry over a lot of dead children and had misery day in and day out but it was very challenging and very different from this. So it was very nice to do some modern comedy."

Victoria's favourite story from Ballykissangel came in series four when Orla thought she was in love with Sean Dillon - played by Lorcan Cranitch, "And thought that he felt the same in return. And over some Thai chicken she had her heart and ego shattered into bits smaller than the rice." She has also been enjoying the making of series five. "I've been up to all sorts of mischief with quad bikes and soot and mud. I'm a big fan of anything that means getting hands on and practical and messy."
