It
was an emotional day at the Wexford races for the owner of
The Cat as Avril Burke's horse came in first.
But this was no ordinary win. Ballykissangel would have
had nothing to celebrate if it hadn't have been for Daddy
G, Grainne Dooley's goat. Until their meeting The Cat had
no interest in the event. "He really hated it. He hated
the crowds, the atmosphere, the starting stalls but now he's
just so much more relaxed" explained Avril Burke.
Edso
Foley witnessed the goat and the horses first meeting. "It
was love at first sight. They're just like Butch and Sundance
now" he said.

So
- amazingly - The Cat's form was turned around by the love of
a good goat.
Immediately
Avril Burke reconsidered entering her horse into the race. A
week before the race she declared her for Wexford.
Daddy G accompanied the horse during his training, feeding and
when he rested in the stables.
As soon as word spread around the town that The Cat's performance
had improved, the local bookmakers became very busy.
On the day of the race it seemed like most of Ballykissangel
decided to make a day of it. Fr Mac, Fr Vincent, Ban Garda Sullivan,
Liam Coglan and Donal O'Docherty and The Dooley's were all seen
cheering from the stalls.
After The Cat's win, The Examiner was told that Daddy G was
kidnapped. Avril Burke was about to withdraw her horse but at
the very last minute Liam and Donal brought The goat into the
racecourse. Daddy G saved the day. Fitzgerald's was packed with
very happy punters last night.
