Parish Partys On!!

Ballykissangel Parish Fete
Last Saturday saw hundreds throng to a field in Ballykissangel for the tenth annual Parish Fete.

The sparse field normally dotted with the odd sheep was transformed overnight with marquees, jam jars, a cow and lots of eager and enthusiastic folk.

As usual most of the local traders and residents participated to ensure that the occasion was a success.

"It's all about community spirit and I'm hoping for ten in a row this year" Ms Kathleen Hendley told The Examiner. Kathleen was of course talking about winning the jam competition for the tenth year in a row.

The new priest, Fr Vincent had the task of judging this year's jam competition. As it turned out it was not an easy one.

For the first time ever there was a draw between Mrs Aubereita Cattermole and Kathleen Hendley. Rumours have it that whilst Ms Hendley was pleased with her win, she was still reluctant to share the glory.

Brendan Kearnery was the MC and Liam Coghlan and Donal O'Docherty looked after the 'cow in a field' competition.

Other events that day were Irish dancing, flower arranging, egg and spoon races and three legged races.

Ban Garda Sullivan was there to keep an eye on things.

By mid afternoon Garda Sullivan found nine year old Grainne Dooley serving in the beer tent and her brother, Dermot lying drunk and asleep on the floor. It is believed that Oonagh Dooley had entered the jam competition and left her husband in charge. Sources revealed that Dooley was up to no good.

The cow in a field competition was a huge success as it hadn't featured in the fete for several years. There was no winner though of that event. Many suspect that Liam and Donal may have intervened with the cow's performance.

Eyewitness later revealed that the cow wandered in to one of the marquees and caused havoc inside.

Spectators told us that Fr Mac very tolerently took a very large percentage of the money from Liam and Donal to pay for repairs to church property.

Nonetheless, the day was, quite literally a smash hit!

There's another pub quiz tonight. Let's hope that you watched episode six very closely!
