Plumber
and failed TD Paul Dooley is back in Ballykissangel. Having
declared bankruptcy and served a six month prison sentence
for tax fraud, Mr. Dooley has returned to the village he once
represented in parliament.
As a contender
for Dáil Éireann he stood against Brian Quigley, the owner
of Fitzgerald’s Bar. So it was a surprise to all the regulars
in Fitzgerald’s to discover that Mr Dooley would spend the
next few months or years behind the bar in their local. Mr.
Dooley’s wife Oonagh, has let the pub from Mr. Quigley while
his daughter Niamh spends some time in Dublin. The Dooley’s
have arrived in Ballykissangel at a time of change for the
town.

The Dooleys
will be made welcome as was demonstrated when the regulars
of Fitzgerald’s helped them with the move into the pub - "
... in an effort to minimise lost drinking time." said one.
Mr and
Mrs Dooley have two children Dermot and Grainne.
A multi-lingual
automated public toilet has been removed from Ballykissangel's
main street.
The "inconvenience"
arrived mysteriously in the middle of the night and was placed
outside Fitzgerald’s bar.
As an interesting
foot note to rising costs in the modern world, should anyone
have wanted to Spend A Penny, it would have cost them forty
pence.
