And
you all thought Oonagh Dooley was the new landlady!
Well, finally I'm here in Fitzgerald's bar and it's
kind of strange. It's just like the real thing but much
bigger I've been told. It has full working pumps and
optics so the cast and crew can have a sneaky pint at
the end of the day. Roll on 8:30pm.

I
caught one of the crew having a well deserved break
and catching up on his latest edition of The Ballykissangel
Examiner. These boys just can't get enough of Ballyk.

One
hundred thousand welcomes. This is the reception desk
for Fitzgerald's B&B . The door behind leads in
to the kitchen which I get to explore next.

Here
are a few posters and things that you'd find in any
other Irish bar. Simon the director tells me that Guinness
is the only beer that can't be faked. In a previous
series there was a Guinness drinking race and by the
time the real shoot took place all the actors were in
great spirits.

Well,
we all need to go but these doors are just part of the
set and don't lead to the loos. I don't think they have
ever made an appearance in the programme so I'll tell
you the way; you go through the door at the back right
hand side of the bar (Where Brendan and Siobhan always
sit) and they're there.

Once,
Assumpta would have made a cup of tea in this kitchen.
Today Oonagh and Sean warm the pot but who knows who'll
be cooking on the stove next? It felt very welcoming
to be sitting at the kitchen table - I was almost expecting
Niamh to walk in and put the kettle on.

Avoca
before Ballykissangel, long before it became a world
famous town. These photographs are on the walls of Fitzgerald's
and who would have thought back then that these quiet
streets would be thronged with tourists and film crews
in the 1990's? They are a nice reminder of the real
Avoca.
