Strange Tales

Terror from the TV

Mike C
New Jersey, USA

All my life I have had weird things occur and happen around me even to this day. There have been many unexplained events, but this one particularly stands out in my mind as being the absolute craziest.

When I was younger from the age of four to about twelve my mother and two younger sisters lived in my great grandmother's house. Being a single mom during most of this time, she would be rarely around, either working two jobs or taking one of us too and fro activities that we participated in as kids.

Looking back, you could always tell if something had happened to one of us in the house because upon arriving from being picked up from catechism class or baseball games, my sister would sometimes be sitting outside by herself waiting for us to come home and vice versa when I was left alone in the house.

Well one evening, when I was about twelve and I was off to sleep I remember dreaming of a clicking noise. But when I awoke from this dream, the noise became a reality in which I proceeded to find where it was originating. I got up and sat on the side of my bed in front of my television which had rather loud buttons that were needed to be pressed in order to select a channel.

"TWO"...."FIVE"...."NINE"...."FOUR"....and on and on as if someone was pressing them in front of my own face. Well that was enough for me and I ran into my mom's room screaming like a baby.

"Mom, Mom...the tv is pressing its own buttons", I said.

Being that it was late and my mom tired from working so much she replied, "Just go back to bed, it's probably a power surge."

When I conjured enough courage to go back into my room, the television was still "pressing" away at itself. So I jumped into my bed, pulled the covers over my head, and began saying "Our Fathers" and "Hail Marys". When I was about to end my prayers, I suddenly felt the impression of someone sitting on my feet. This is when I passed out either from the sheer terror I was experiencing or just by some strange miracle, in which I awoke the next morning squeezed between the wall and my bed as if I was a frightened turtle.

As I tell this story to some people and as I write this, I always start to get chills and my eyes begin to tear. I don't know what that night was all about, but I still have strange events similar to this happen to me from time to time even to this day.
