Strange Tales

Shadows in the alley

Aiden Harrison
Witney

This isn't so much a ghostly occurence, but a very strange effect that a place has on me. I am 12 years old and have heard things that have happened to people in my family that are caused by ghosts. On my way to school, I've always gone the quickest way, which includes going down a little narrow dirt track. Before entering the alley, I feel fine, and when I leave it I feel fine. But when I'm in it, I get the feeling that I'm being watched. The feeling has become more intense every day. I first time I felt I was being watched and then, followed, and it got so bad I could swear that something was chasing me. Out of the corner of my eye, I always see a black shadow behind me. It is not my own, because my shadow is always on my right due to the time I leave home every morning, and it's not a normal shadow that I see; this one looks pitch black. It is extremely unnerving to go down this alley, and sometimes I get so terrified I stop dead and whip around so fast that no one and nothing can hide fast enough for me to find an empty path behind me. Then I turn around and it's chasing me again. This has become such an unbearable thing to do that I have taken to going to school a different way that's twice as long. I never go down there now, and I hope I never will have to.
