Nik Muzka
Six Pack
Nik Muzka, 17th January
Nik Muzka is a kind gentleman. While many would selfishly guard the best music they've been listening to like a squirrel with a particularly tasty stash of nuts, Nik selects six of the finest for you while also providing a short explanation about why it's floating his boat at the minute...

Neil Landstrumm - Transmission with Si Begg - Planet Mu
This track is from the new album by Neil Landstrumn 'Lord For £39' on Planet MU. The album has two tracks featuring Si Begg with this just slightly being my fave. It's a dollop of nu school breaks smeared with future krunk and topped with a layer of dirty grime, a tasty dish indeed that satisfies my love of bass and beats.

Birdy Nam Nam - The Parachute Ending
Birdy Nam Nam are a turntablist crew from France and world DMC champs. I've been playing their tracks out for a while now and though they are usually chopped up hip hop this release is produced by Justice and has a typical Ed Banger sound. The first half plays at a slow pace before doubling up into a dirty driving thumping beast of a track. Hopefully their new album will be of similar quality as I suspect it will seeing as its being produced by Yuksek.

TV On The Radio - Dancing Choose (prefuse73remix) - 4AD
TV On The Radio released one of the best albums of 2008 'Dear Science' and Prefuse 73 are easily one of the best leftfield hip hop acts around so you know this is going to be a brilliant remix. And it is. Glitchy beats, bleeps, harsh bass, twisted melodies and random stabs slip and fall into place perfectly over the vocal which also gets mutilated as the track nears its end. LOVE IT!!!!!!

MODESELEKTOR - The Black Block (Byetone Remix) - Bpitch Control
This sweet piece of elctro-tech comes from the 'Happy Birthday Remixed #2' ep on Bpitch and it's a monster of a tune. The first thing to grab you is the beat, it pounds and never lets up and is the backbone of the track that is complimented by what is best described as sustained noise which transforms into a pulsating riff and gets bigger and bigger. This track will lift a set and have people hanging from the ceiling. Also worth mentioning is the equally  impressive rustie mix for the a more dubstep vibe.

Amp Fiddler / Sly & Robbie - Black House (Paint The White House Black) (GreenMoney For President Dub) - Strut
Amp Fiddler teams up with two of the biggest names in reggae on this  release which has a retro 80s feel to it and not really my thing but the GreenMoney For President Dub mix ticks all my boxes with skippy broken beats, bouncy bass, sirens and echoed vocal stabs. A perfect track for DJing with.

Heralds of Change - Bopgunn feat Oliver Day Soul -  All City
Mike Slott and Hudson Mohawke are the members of Heralds of Change who are from Irealnd and Scotland that are making their mark on world wide audience. Hudson is one of my fav producers on the scene at the moment who's productions are both fresh and original. This track has been compared to Outkast and I think that comparison is spot on. Though this track is far from the norm you could easily hear it on daytime radio 1. Sounds like a Prince, Bootsy Collins and J Dilla collabo. Check out more on the Heralds of Change myspace...
