If there's one man we know who knows his Muzka, it's Nik. Receive his recommendations in the neatly packaged form of this Six Pack... The Shortwave Set - White Lie - Wall Of Sound These guys are a British alt pop outfit who I first heard few years ago when Zane Lowe made their album 'Debt Collection' his album of the week. Since then they have toured with Gnarls Barkley and Dangermouse liked them so much he's produced their new album on Wall Of Sound 'Replica Sun Machine'. This track is the b side of the first single 'No Social' which also comes with a very tasty Optimo remix. The Apples - Killing - Freestyle This record is a cover the classic RATM 'Killing In The Name of...' and it's a funk fuelled dancefloor destroyer. The band is a collective with members from Haifa, Tel Aviv, New York and Israel and they play live horns, double bass and drums centered round 4 turntables. They blow away big names like Mark Ronson in the funk/jazz stakes. The Ting Tings Vs Ed Rush - That's Not My Name (Muzka Mashup) This is one of my new mashups using the number one single from The Ting Tings and Ed Rush's track 'Sabotage'. Have also made a vid for this and numerous others which I hope to perform live with soon. Paper Nation - Remember Me (Dilly+Graham L remix) This is a new single and remix from local boys Gary Dillon and Graham L with Rober Brown on vocals. The original is very poppy but this remix is more my thing taking the original and mashing it up making it more sporadic and glitchy which sets nicely in my more housier sets. All Good Funk Neighbourhood ep - Jalapeno recs This is a meaty four track ep from one of my favourite funky breaks labels jalapeno. All four tracks are excellent which makes it hard to pick a fav so I went for the less obvious track All Good Funk Alliance 'On The Prowl' on the ep as the title track seems to be getting a lot of play. Anyone who is familiar with the sound of Skeewif or Kraak and Smaak will know what to expect, a funkopillis of rump shakin' breaks. Fugees - Fu Gee La - Sony What can I say about this track apart from it's one of the best hip hop/r+b/soul/urban/whatever songs ever made. The beat sits perfect with Lauran Hills vocal and it justs reminds of the summer in 1996 when it came out. Not only is it the best thing Fugees ever done but it's the best thing any of the members have done since which isn't hard as whyclef makes utter tripe. | ||
