Imagine getting free advice about the most tremendous tracks around from the glitteratti of Northern Ireland's dance music scene. I know, it seems an unreasonable amount to ask, but that's what you'll get when you peruse the ATL Six Pack. This week, it's Danielle Keenan's turn to turn you on to the toppermost tunes... The Sunburst Band - Turn It Out (Z Records) A seven piece funk outfit, they were formed by super producer Dave Lee aka Joey Negro alongside former members of Incognito & Jamiroquai. So naturally their sound is a fusion of soul, jazz & funk. The track Turn it Out is taken from the new EP released in Feb this year and its a blend of new electronic funk with an old skool feel. Ben Westbeech - So Good Today, Yoruba Remix (Brownswood Recording) Another UK act that displays a wide range of musical style which varies from hip-hop and soul right through to drum & bass and jazz. He wrote, produced and played most of the instruments on this track, "So Good Today" has been floating around for a long time, but this remix is taken from the album "Welcome To... The Remixes" which was released in December. The remix comes very close to the original but has a more house vibe with extra instrumentation and precussion. MGMT - Electric Feel (Sony BMG) Electronic rock duo from Brooklyn. The two guys met at university and eventually hooked up with Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann to do the album, which is officially released on 10th March but it's available to download now. The track - Electric Feel - is a bit more laid back than the lead single time to pretend, and for me there's a strong Prince influence going on. Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip - Look For The Woman (Sunday Best) A London two-piece, they had a hit single 'Thou Shall Not Kill' back in 2007 and I've a feeling they have another hit on their hands with this track - Look For The Woman. A release date is still TBC but its expected to be sometime in April as they signed to record label Sunday Best only last week, they are currently on tour and you can catch them in Derry and Belfast on the 4th & 6th of May and they are worth checking out. Sam Sparro - Black & Gold, Russ Chimes Remix (ModuxVenius) This track was released stateside in August last year, and will hit UK stores on 31st March. Black & Gold is fast becoming an anthem which I'm predicting will be around for a long time in 2008. The track has an electro/funk/pop edge with soulful vocals. He is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in music, Universal have snapped him up, so the album is expected to drop later this year. This track is a remix by UK DJ Russ Chimes and will be available when the single is released at the end of the month. Santogold - Creator (Downtown) A name to look out for this year, her style varies between a mix of electro, dub, punk and new wave. Producers have been lining up to work with her and the album is due to be released on 5th May, featuring collaborations with Spank Rock, Diplo, and Mark Ronson. This track was produced for her by Switch and FreQ Nasty - they basically made the beats and asked her to rap over it and the result is creator which is released in the UK on 24th March. | ||
