Spencer Parker
Spencer Parker has just dropped the awesome 'Zanzibar' in collaboration with Diesel on Nic Fanciulli's Saved imprint. Check out what he has to say for himself...

ATL: Hi, and how the hell are you today?
Hey there, I'm great thanks. So far, so good!

ATL: Let's get started then. First musical memory?
Probably saving my pennies to go into Woolworths and buy my first 7inch record - Ray Parker Jnr's 'Ghostbusters'.

ATL: Have you ever played Ireland and if so where, when and how was it for you?
Yeah, I've played in Ireland a few times actually, Dublin, Cork, the excellent Yello in Belfast and the amazing Red Rooms in Derry - I always have a great time in Ireland, love the place.

ATL: Now, what prompted you to get fully involved in dance music?
Well, I came into it fundamentally as a fan of house music. I would buy records to remind me of my nights out - a specific song that I really liked and wanted to hear again and again. I eventually had a bit of a collection of good records, played a friend's 18th birthday party and the rest is infamy.

ATL: What's been your best clubbing experience?
Mmm, tricky one, I went to see Nic Fanciulli play the Space Terrace for We Love... a few years back and had an amazing day/night. Like all my best clubbing experiences, it was a time I'll never forget, but can barely remember.

ATL: For non dance music, what are you listening to at the mo?
Lots of stuff, I love Kanye West as he's completely unique and does not give a flying one, I'm a HUGE fan of The Script's 'Breakeven' track (I'm sure I'm very late on them!) and I'm loving the new Q Tip album. I listen to a hell of a lot of soundtracks too but when it comes to non house stuff I could listen to anything from Joan Osborne to Lil Wayne to Dolly Parton.

ATL: So, do you have any famous DJ mates and if so, who, and what are they really like? Go on you can tell us...
Hahaha, well, like any job, you have mates in the same industry and some of the good guys in this game I count as friends would have to include Nic Fanciulli, Matt Edwards (Radio Slave), Severino (Horse Meat Disco) and Diesel from X Press 2. Marlene Dietrich said that the only friends who count are the ones you can call at 4am. And I've called them all at 4am at some point... regardless of what country they, or I, may be in. I'd love to dish the dirt on them but they have infinitely more on me, so I'll keep quiet for now thank you very much!

ATL: What is really the best club in the world?
I'll let you know when I play Panorama Bar in May ; )

ATL: Your criminal record - whats the worst piece of music ever played out?
Hmm, tricky one, I had a gig in Tallinn once and stayed for an extra night. I went to a club with my friends and it seemed like they were playing 'Cotton Eye Joe' on loop?!?!?! I looked up at the wall and saw that for the last 30 minutes I'd been bearing witness to a PA from the one and only Rednex. If anyone out there can claim there's something worse than that, then I'd like to hear it. Or rather, I woudn't!

ATL: Who is the best DJ in the world and why?
I'm not sure it's constantly the same person to be honest. I've had some great nights out listening to a variety of people, from Luciano to Justin Drake to Cash Money to Giles Smith to Francois Kevorkian to Guido Schneider. They're all good for the same reasons, they play the music they love and strike a balance between playing tracks you've never heard as well as quality favourites you haven't heard for years.

ATL: And when will we see you again then?
Just when you least expect it, but hopefully sometime in 09!

ATL : Ok, giz your top five tunes and bugger off...
Will do, LATER!
1. Radio Slave - Don't You Know (CDR)
2. Michel Cleis - La Mezcla (CDR)
3. Baeka - Right At It (Rekids)
4. Gummihz - Los Los, Djulz Remix (Mobilee)
5. Spencer Parker - The Beginning (Buzzin' Fly)
