He's just released his debut album on the label he runs from Hamburg, Diynamic Reordings. Stiming takes time out to chat with ATL...

ATL: Hi, and how the hell are you today?
Yeah I'm mainly fine, a little bit sick, but it seems to be like that in this part of the year. Thanks for asking.

ATL: Let's get started then. First musical memory?
Me building my own drum set in my parents garden with some cans and pipes. I must have been 5 years old or something. Oh, and playing the violin then.

ATL: Have you ever played Ireland and if so where, when and how was it for you?
I played in belfast at the Stiff Kitten which I really enjoyed! I know Belfast is Great Britain, but I hope not to come into strange politics now. So I stop talking about it! :)

ATL: Now, what prompted you to get fully involved in dance music?
I was playing the drums for a long time, but it never really satisfied me, because I was only one part of the music. And when playing a "traditional" instrument you have to find bandmates that really fit. Sooo - making music with a computer is all about yourself and your skills which is something good but also very much more complicated than many people think. It has many different levels, technical, creative etc., and I also think that dance music is the top notch music right now. It's about using the newest technology and that is what I like the most about techno or house or however you wanna call it.

ATL: What's been your best clubbing experience?
Oh there were a few but some really stand out. There was the Fusion last year which I absolutely enjoyed! It's 4 days of freedom - no limits no boundaries nothing. Hmmm, you have to stay alive, yes and it's hard to come into normal life afterwards but that's a challenge you have to do, otherwise you're going to get problems. Hmm, however, another thing was listening to Rasmus Faber's instrumental remix of I'm In Love from Studio Apartment. I listened to it the first time at Uebel & Gefahrlich in Hamburg and the DJ played it during a more coldish techno set and it really made me see flowers coming from the speakers. That was sooo intense. Really nice! Another one was playing in Zagreb at club masters, a very smallish club with a nice atmosphere. and the people were going crazy during my set, which I'm very thankful of.

ATL: For non dance music, what are you listening to at the mo?
Still listening to Amon Tobin's Foley Room. And I also like both the albums from Feist.

ATL: So, do you have any famous DJ mates and if so, who, and what are they really like? Go on you can tell us...
Ha, are you sure I should? :) Well, I know Solomun very well and I just can tell you that he's really a nice guy, not in a foolish way, very focused and concentrated on what he's doing but very nice to all the people he likes. Also hosh is a very nice person!

ATL: What is really the best club in the world?
Oh, that's hard to say, because every club has its positive and negative things. If you want me to name one - Watergate in Berlin. I met my girlfriend there, so this club has a special meaning for me.

ATL: Your criminal record - whats the worst piece of music ever played out?
Hard to say, because I'm only playing live and only my own stuff, so I would cut into my own flesh which I don't like.

ATL: Who is the best DJ in the world and why?
The last time I heard DJ T he impressed me a lot so I would name him. It was on a festival and he played not the common tunes everyone plays but still very high quality and a flavour of its own which I think many more DJs should have. According to my opinion there's no use for a DJ who's playing the Beatport Tekhouse charts.

ATL: And when will we see you again then?
I came to stay so it's only a matter of time.

ATL : Ok, giz your top five tunes and bugger off...
1. Rasmus Faber's instrumental remix of I'm In Love from Studio Apartment
2. Ane Brun - Headphone Silence
3. Last Tango - Butch
4. Orbital Life - Johnny D
5. The Anger - By Myself
