You can check out their brand new album Nuttin' Butt Funk out on the 29th September on Det.ele.funk, but in the mean time check out what the detroit Grand Pubahs have to say for themselves... ATL: Hi, and how the hell are you today? DGP: Hey, I'm F'n Great! And you? ATL: All the better for seeing you. ATL: Let's get started then. First musical memory? DGP: My parents were very musical people after dinner they were making all sorts of sounds that seemed to bring smiles and the occasional frown to some faces. ATL: Have you ever played Ireland and if so where, when and how was it for you? DGP: Yeah, I've played Belfast and Dublin. I can't remember where but I can tell you that I had a great time. I need to get sponsored by Johnny Walker. ATL: Now, what prompted you to get fully involved in dance music? DGP: I had to. I didn't have a job, I could have had one but after Sandwiches I started travelling and figured I'd rather travel doing what I love than to work doing something I might end up hating. ATL: What's been your best clubbing experience? DGP: I don't know man that's a hard question. I'd have to say the last time Mr. O and I played TRESOR. We just winged everything, I was on the lap top just drawing in notes on one of the soft synths (I couldn't hear a thing) then I'd play it just to see what it sounded like, and if it sounded good I let it play while O was on the turn tables playing tracks and putting in samples every now and then. We would take turns going to the bar and toilets? HAAAAA!!!! Man, we had a sick night. ATL: For non dance music, what are you listening to at the mo? DGP: Screamin Jay Hawkins, Iggy Pop, Warren Zevon (r.i.p.), Gang Star, The G.A.P. Band, Parliament, Funkadelic. ATL: So, do you have any famous DJ mates and if so, who, and what are they really like? Go on you can tell us... DGP: I really don't have any, I don't hang out with other dj's much. The only person I see on a regular basis is Mr. O and his whole story is on his face, sleeve, chest, shoes and cleaver. ATL: What is really the best club in the world? DGP: The one in my head. Actually it's a place called Players on 8 mile and Ryan. ATL: Your criminal record - whats the worst piece of music ever played out? DGP: I'm not one to criticize so, I'd have to say some of my own tracks haven't been much at all. I'm still in a learning process since being self taught. I did remixes for a few people that I think could have been a lot better but that's life. You can't keep looking behind you saying "Damn how did my ass get to be so flat and life less like Keanu Reeves' acting?" ATL: Who is the best DJ in the world and why? DGP: The one who thinks he is. Because he's the only one that matters. Just because you get all these dj's getting paid tons of money to play doesn't mean they're the best. People are stupid really, we feed off of hype. If some Joan or John put out a single that "BLEW UP" people would want to see him or her. But take someone who doesn't know the first thing about producing but can run the decks like me, you'll never get to see that person because they have no name and people don't want to see a no name. Are you listening Jay Langa? ATL: And when will we see you again then? DGP: As soon as I'm back. ATL : Ok, giz your top five tunes and bugger off?.. DGP: 1. Drinks At Midnight, 2. Night Cap, 3. Get Your Hands Off Of Me, 4. I'm Not Easy, 5. O.K. I'm Just Playing Hard To Get | ||
