'Lost together' is the name of the brand new album from West Coast house legend Fred Everything which was released last week on Om Recordings. The ATL autobot grabbed him for a quick once over... ATL: Hi, and how the hell are you today? Great, sunny day in San Francisco, can't complain. ATL: Let's get started then. First musical memory? Maybe not the first but I'm defenitely a Thriller child. 25 years already, no one's getting any younger! ATL: Have you ever played Ireland and if so where, when and how was it for you? Yes. Dublin, Cork and Waterford. Good times all around. Cork was especially good. One of those places I wish I would've played deeper. ATL: Now, what prompted you to get fully involved in dance music? Being the youngest kid in nightclubs when I was about 14. I just liked the music. ATL: What's been your best clubbing experience? There are so many. If I have to pick a recent one, I was playing in a club with Chuck Love. He was singing and playing instruments over my set when the speakers caught on fire. The vibe was already thick. Chuck then started to sing something like : "Stay out of the fire" while smoke was coming out of the PA. Party went on until the end as usual! ATL: We regret to inform you that your house is on fire, you can only carry one piece of vinyl or CD out, what will it be? I'm prepared, I have a portable hard drive with all my music on it! ATL: For non dance music, what are you listening to at the mo? Really enjoyed Marc Mac's (4Hero) album last year. Other than that, a lot of stuff from Sonar Kollektiv (Fat Freddy's Drop...) or Ubiquity. ATL: So, do you have any famous DJ mates and if so, who, and what are they really like? Go on you can tell us.. If you mean Tiesto famous, then no, but of course I have some more successful friends. People in my surroundings are generally very down to earth otherwise I wouldn't be friends with them ;) ATL What is really the best club in the world? I'd say Fabric still holds a special place in my heart. ATL: Your criminal record - whats the worst piece of music ever played out? I started playing out in a commercial club back in the days. Just pick and I probably played it! ATL: Who is the best DJ in the world and why? No such things as the world's best DJ. I do enjoy people like Gilles Petterson for his selection . On a house tip, still drawn to people like Diz or Mark Farina. ATL: And when will we see you again then? You mean in Ireland? I've been waiting for the next invitation. I'm in the phone book! ATL: Now before you go, give us your top five tunes of the moment Giano - WJSD EP (Lazy Days) Mood2Swing - Closer, Olivier Desmet and Fred Everything 2008 Rmx (Amenti) Lovebirds - Gentle (Lovebirds) Inland Knights - Lay On Me (Raise) Roland Clark - Mr V, 5 Beats remix (King Street) | ||
