Paul Woolford
Paul Woolford joins us on this week's ATL Dance with an exclusive live set recorded live at Womb in Tokyo. Currently on tour promoting his amazing new album 'The Truth' on 2020 Vision Recordings, he managed to take five minutes out for the ATL Q&A...

ATL: Hi, and how the hell are you today?
Hello Paul, and I am f*&^$g outstanding today, thanks for asking.

ATL: Let's get started then. First musical memory?
Listening to my Dad's Queen album... I bet people talk out of their arses when you ask them that question don't they? I bet they say 'listening to Kraftwerk in the bath' or some knackers like that.

ATL: Have you ever played Ireland and if so where, when and how was it  for you?
Many a time, for Shine, The Stiff Kitten & Pirate Radio in Belfast, Lush in Portrush, and for various other clubs in Dublin, Galway, Shannon and plenty more locations. It's one of my favourite places to play...

ATL: Now, what prompted you to get fully involved in dance music?
It was an organic process, I slowly drifted into it, rather than deciding one day. There are a lot of careerist djs who you can clearly see decided to do this for the lifestyle, the travel, or to meet women or whatever, and all the associated bullocks that goes with it, but I am here solely to try and make a genuine difference to the music and to steer it somewhere new hopefully.

ATL: What's been your best clubbing experience?
Far too many to choose between them, there's a multitude of things I never forget year by year... sorry!

ATL: We regret to inform you that your house is on fire, you can only carry one piece of vinyl or CD out, what will it be?
It's fine, the fire engine got there in time, so I'll keep the lot... I couldn't possibly choose if I had to.

ATL: For non dance music, what are you listening to at the mo?
The Fall, Fleetwood Mac, Tracey Chapman, Alanis Morissette, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Sonic Youth, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, I listen to all kinds of stuff constantly. If it's quality then I'm interested basically.

ATL: So, do you have any famous DJ mates and if so, who, and what are they really like? Go on you can tell us...
Oh come on, you can do better than that.

ATL: What is really the best club in the world?
It's between Womb in Tokyo, Warung in Brazil, and my residency, Space in Ibiza I would think... but special mentions to Alter Ego in Verona, D-Edge in Sao Paulo and Love in New York.

ATL: Your criminal record - whats the worst piece of music ever played out?
"Pump Up The Bitter" by Star Turn on 45 Pints is pretty obnoxious.

ATL: Who is the best DJ in the world and why?
I have absolutely no idea, but personally the people I respect are Francois K, Danny Tenaglia, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin and few more and for various reasons.

ATL: And when will we see you again then?
You will see me at Shine on April the 19th and I'm really looking forward to it!!
