How to Play on Mobile Phone take part
sample questions
FAQs

How will it work?

  1. The test will be broken up into 5 blocks of 15 questions. To take part via text messaging you need to answer each question in each block - either A, B, C or D.
  2. You will need to answer the test questions as they appear on TV, they will not be sent to you.
  3. At the end of each section you will be given a number to which you can text your answers for that section. You will need to prefix each section with 1,2,3,4 OR 5 - but don't worry, we will remind you what to do each time.
How to send your answers

  1. You can either enter your answers straight onto the screen of your mobile phone OR you can print out the SMS scorecard and use it to keep track of your answers, then write the text message at the end of each section (you will have time).
  2. You must write an answer for every question asked in each section.
  3. It does not matter whether you use upper or lower case (or mixed). Please do not enter any character except A, B, C or D. The message you send in will look something like this:

Pre-register to obtain your grade!

We will be handing out extra points according to your date of birth. Each player will get bonus points added to their score for every day they are over 20 years of age. During the second half of the TV programme, we will be explaining the bonus points system to you - but to save you the bother of doing any sums, just pre-register with us and we'll add your bonus points on for you! Please text us your date of birth (DDMMYY) and, just for fun, we'd love to know what county you live in and if you're male or female! On the night, we'll be keeping track of how men are faring against woman AND how the counties are competing against each other. Eamonn and Christine will keep you posted as the evening progresses and the answers flow in.

Please send your pre-registration message to 64446 (network’s standard message charge will apply). For example, the message you send will look something like this: -

From this, we will know that you were born on the 29th of September 1975, that you're a man and that you live in Tyrone.

We will send you a message to confirm that you have pre-registered with us free of charge. We will also send you a message on the day of transmission to remind you to play along - this will also be free of charge.

Obtaining a score

  1. Once you have sent us a message for the fifth and final section of the test, we will calculate your score.
  2. To get an accurate score, you must send your fifth and final text message before the end of the first part of the TV programme.
  3. Once your test score is calculated, you will receive a text message from the BBC containing your score - please be patient as this may take some time.
  4. Players who have pre-registered with their age will obtain their score (with their age-related bonus points added on) AND their grade. Grade bands will be calculated using the scores of pre-registered mobile phone and web players. Full details of grade band calculations.
  5. Answers will be given out on our results programme on BBC1 NI on the 29th of January at 10.35pm.

Hints and tips

  2. 2. Type carefully - check you have answered all the questions. The number to send the answers to for that section will be displayed on the TV screen - please be sure to check it carefully.
