Voices: Turning words into action
Image of a pencil and paper Pupils' poetry and creative writing

Below is a collection of poems and writings by pupils from Corby Community College.
Stormy Weather, by Loren, 10CD

The mist crept over the land,
The wind howled with pain,
Stormy weather approached sharply.

The rain poured as tears,
The trees writhed in agony,
Stormy weather approached sharply.

The lightening struck as sharp as frost,
The thunder roared with anger,
Stormy weather approached sharply.

The houses fell out of fear,
The people shrieked like cars,
Stormy weather was feared by all.

Competition, by Loren, 10CD
Medals gleaming
Waiting to be won,
Trophies tantalisingly teasing,
Forbidden fruit,
Waiting,
To be eaten.

Buckled shoes,
Dresses swish,
Sparkling like diamonds,
On a glittering pool of satin

Faces made up,
Like china dolls,
Hair sculptured and lacquered stiff,
For fear of a strand,
Wandering out of place.
Lightening strikes,
As cameras flash,
Let the tournament begin!

Backs arched,
Like swans necks,
Palms sticky as treacle,
Legs twist around,
Heels click and tap,
Fingers point an invisible canvas,
Swirling, gliding, spinning,
The floor thumps,
Like an earthquake,
The crowd roars its applause
.

The year nine class created this poem based on their reading of Shakespeare's Macbeth.

The Story of Shakespeare, by the Year nine class

Norway nil, Scotland one,
King dead, sons gone,
Macbeth ambitious,
The feast delicious,
Banquo in a ditch,
Lady Macbeth a bitch,
Banquo's a ghost,
Macbeth and evil host.

Is he MAD? Is he SANE?
What has happened to our Thane?
The witches told his future bright -
Now Macbeth's a butcher -

He though he was SAFE
He had plenty of FAITH
He sent his wife round the bend,
But they got him in the end.

He listened to what the witches said
But now
He's ended up dead!

OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

Some of the year nine pupils were given the objective to write in the role of a character from Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Written by Darren,
Year 9
Written by Tim, Year 9
You don't know the day I have had. I just came back from a battle that we won. Macbeth and I were walking in an open space. It was dark and windy, then in front of us were three witches and they greeted Macbeth and ignored me. They told Macbeth that he will be king and Thane of Cawdor. I asked the witches to give a glimpse of my future and they said I will not be King but my Children will be. Then they disappeared.

We were shocked. Is this true or not? Have we gone mad? We got home and the King's Scottish lords said to Macbeth that King Duncan fled them to him Thane of Cawdor. I went to talk to my son, Banquo, and said to him that he will be king but he said who told you and I said these three witches. It is true, ask Macbeth.
What a day it has been. I came across three witches and they told me I'll be king of Scotland. That will be great. But I can't see that happening because Scotland has got a king - Duncan.

If Duncan did die his son will be the king not me. I will rule the Scottish army. I know my wife will love to be queen.

I am really tired because of all the training and fighting. But we beat the Norwegians really well and killed the enemies. I cut one of them in half!

Script written by Joanne and Nicole, Year 9
Banquo: Well Macbeth, I can't believe the day I have had. It's finally over. I thought it would never end.

Macbeth: Well Banquo, you say you have had a bad day. What about the day I have had?

Banquo: I can't get over meeting those witches. They said you're going to be king. What about me? They jumped from me as if I didn't exist. I can't believe it.

Macbeth: What about those witches disappearing like that? It was so scary!

Banquo: What about their long skinny fingers and their skinny lips? At first I thought they were men because they had beards.

Macbeth: Hey, another thing we can celebrate is the battle. I can't believe we won!

Zeljko's objective was to write a news report for Teen-Round:

Report written by Zeljko, Year 9
King Duncan popped round to Macbeth's castle for a sleepover.

In the morning Macduff went to wake Duncan up, but he was a dead'un. There's blood all over the place, on the guards' hands, on the bed, on the floor and on the daggers.

Macbeth kills the guards to make himself look hard and cool. The kings' sons, Malcolm and Donalbain, do a runner. 'It could be us next' they say.

Now Macbeth is king and everybody is down in the dumps because King Duncan is dead.
