There
are some things that make English summers so special: strawberries,
Wimbledon, sitting in the park and cricket on the village green.
OK, so there's rain, traffic jams and airport delays as well, but
please be romantic for a moment!
There's also watching an open-air Shakespeare play in an idyllic
setting on a balmy summer's evening.
The regional touring theatre company, Mad Dogs and Englishmen Theatre,
are bringing one of Shakespeare's romantic comedies to two locations
in Northamptonshire in June and July.
As You Like It is being performed at Lyveden New Bield, near Oundle,
at the end of June and again at Lamport Hall, between Northampton
and Kettering, at the end of July.
As You Like It is the one full of lovesick shepherds, melancholy
poets and a cross-dressing heroine. "All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players" is its most famous
line.
Mad
Dogs and Englishmen specialise in high energy, physical theatre,
so even if you feel a little uncomfortable with 400-year-old language,
you should find it an entertaining show.
You
have to take your own rugs or low-back seating (and don't forget
the possibility of rain!).
